The Toyota Land Cruiser's legacy is intertwined with Toyota's history. Introduced to North America in 1958, it evolved from the legendary 40 Series two-door models with their iconic fold-down front windshield, white roof, and rear jump seats. With each new series, the Land Cruiser transitioned from being a durable and straightforward utility vehicle to a blend of strength and premium features seen in the luxurious 80 Series, the last generation sold in Canada. Despite the changes, Land Cruiser always retained its position as a reliable and capable off-roader.
After nearly three decades, the Toyota Land Cruiser is making a highly anticipated return to Canada for 2024, celebrating its off-road heritage with modern innovations. Designed to endure the most challenging terrains, the new Land Cruiser is exclusively equipped with the i-FORCE MAX turbocharged 2.4-litre hybrid powertrain, delivering a compelling 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque.
The first production batch, limited to 5,000 units for North America, will feature the First Edition grade, distinguished by round heritage LED headlamps, a roof rack, rock rails, and an exclusive interior. All models have the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 as standard and feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen, the heart of Toyota's latest multimedia system and Multi Terrain Monitor.
Built on the TNGA-F global truck platform, the 2024 Land Cruiser exhibits enhanced rigidity and agility. Narrower and shorter than the outgoing 200 Series, it offers improved off-road capabilities. The new generation Land Cruiser echoes its iconic predecessors, featuring the classic "TOYOTA" grilles, a boxy profile, and pushed-back A-pillar for better visibility on trails.
The standard i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain combines a turbocharged 2.4-litre engine and a 48-hp electric motor integrated into an eight-speed transmission, powered by a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack. Fuel economy figures will be announced closer to its on-sale date.
Renowned for off-road proficiency, the Land Cruiser comes equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system, a centre-locking differential, and an electronically controlled two-speed transfer case. The vehicle boasts impressive approach, departure, and breakover angles, alongside a ground clearance of 221 millimeters (8.7 inches).
The Land Cruiser is slated to roll out of Toyota's Tahara and Hino plants in Japan in spring 2024. Pricing details will be unveiled nearer to the launch date. This robust off-roader is set to redefine Toyota's legendary prowess, promising exhilarating backcountry adventures to its fans.
